Description
I am pleased to present my new watercolor painting, “Leda and the Swan.” This work offers a rare opportunity to acquire an original piece from my Renaissance series and to enrich your collection with a contemporary interpretation of a timeless myth.
Inspired by Jacopo Pontormo’s Leda and the Swan from the Uffizi Gallery, the painting revisits the classical Greek legend in which Zeus, enamored with the mortal Leda, transforms himself into a swan to approach her. Although Leda was married to Tyndareus, the king of Sparta, Zeus’s divine intervention leads to the miraculous birth of two eggs, from which the twins Castor and Pollux emerge. Castor, born of Tyndareus, was mortal, while Pollux, the son of Zeus, possessed divine essence. The swan, as a symbol of the Holy Spirit and creation, underscores Zeus’s role as the omnipotent ruler of the cosmos.
Through the prism of my floral compositions, I reinterpreted this myth with a contemporary sensibility, combining abstract backgrounds with finely detailed botanical elements. The work also celebrates the rich flora and fauna of Tuscany—one of the most picturesque regions on Earth—whose natural beauty continues to inspire my artistic vision..
